What if your next tiny action is the way forward?

Hello Courageous Thrivers,

Ever think, “I’m not ready?”

What if action is the way . . .

Here’s what I want you to know:

If you feel like you’re not doing enough to create the kind of world you believe in — especially at this crucial moment in history — you may be right.

You might also be wrong.

You might be doing exactly what’s yours to do, but not noticing it.

You know how you’ll get to peace about it?

How you’ll finally trust yourself and your choices?

By trusting yourself and making choices — then seeing what happens.

It comes by taking action, not because you're confident it’s “the right” thing, but because you’re brave enough to experiment — and to trust that even if it’s the wrong choice (as in: it doesn’t bring the result you hoped for), you will be okay.

And you will.

Here’s what I know to be true:

1) You are capable of responding to whatever happens as a result of your actions — and shifting course if needed.

2) No matter what happens, you are not wrong.
There is no circumstance in which you, at your core, are wrong, bad, or unworthy.

You may make a harmful or unhelpful choice.
You may need to repair.

But that is not the same as being wrong at your core.

3) In the words of Rashida Bonds:

“The revolution doesn’t need your humility.”

The shame and insecurity that keep so many women and queer folks quiet, stuck, and spinning in anxiety?

Those aren’t “natural.”
They’re common. They’re understandable. They’re human.
But they are not inevitable.

They are constructed — by patriarchal, capitalist, white supremacist, heteronormative, and increasingly fascist systems.

Which means they can be deconstructed — by us.

We can deconstruct them intellectually:
By learning from our ancestors.
From hidden scriptures.
From stories of women and gender-nonconforming people.
Of disabled people. Of Black people. Of Indigenous and poor people.

And we can deconstruct them in our bodies:
By taking small actions
— and building a pile of new evidence
that shows us we can do what we thought we couldn’t.

And I say “we” because we don’t do this work alone.

It’s the action, combined with the “we”, that will make us unstoppable.

We’re not going for perfection.
We’re going for progress.

Y’all, the world needs you.

It needs us:

  • Working together

  • Getting together

  • Encouraging each other

  • Offering what we have

  • Messing up

  • Forgiving each other (and ourselves)

  • Playing

  • Laughing

  • Resting

  • Relaxing

And feeling the kind of peace that only comes on the other side of being true to ourselves — and to our values and visions.

So here’s your invitation:

Hit reply and tell me what action you’ll take between now and next Thursday.

I’ll share one of mine, too.

Make it tiny, so you don’t talk yourself out of it.

Hit reply now — before you can talk yourself out of it.

Goodbye to overthinking.
Hello to thriving and equity.
